Global Brigades is the world's largest student led non-profit in the world, working with other 8,000 students annually in sustainable development projects in Latin America and West Africa. The University of Colorado's chapter of Global Brigades threw a benefit concert featuring Elephant Revival at the Glenn Miller Center on Wednesday night along with the help of the mighty Program Council. Over 800 students and members of the Boulder community came out to support Elephant Revival and Global Brigades at the University of Colorado- all proceeds to concert ticket sales and band memorabilia went towards the school's Medical and Dental Brigades program trip down to Panama. From May 18-26 2013 over 50 students from the University of Colorado will travel to rural Eastern Panama to offer a mobile clinic system with health care professionals for hundreds of Panamanian community members. 

Their were two headliners, both student groups, who really got the crowd packing in early and played great sets. Cascade Kinzie started off the night with a similar sound as Elephant Revival. Another local band, Cold River City, took the stage right after and even though they were missing the lead vocals of Emma Fields they managed to keep the crowd entertained with their unique blending of music. They played some rock, some reggae-rock, some jam-rock, and through it all kept the crowd moving and entertained. But nothing could compare to the Nederland based group, Elephant Revival. People of all ages turned out to see them play this special set and though there were some sound problems in the beginning they managed to play a very special set indeed. They played crowd favorites like 'Sing To The Mountain' and 'Go On' and also through in some new music. The show really turned to a performance when someone dressed as a giant elephant came on stage and danced around and even local acrobats came on for a few songs!

Wednesday's concert was a testament to what music and shows can provide socially in the work non-profits are doing around the world as well as the shear talent of Boulder's local music scene. The group was able to raise thousands of dollars to medical donations and health care professionals to run their mobile clinic in Panama in May. The music was awesome, the cause was great and this event shows what our generation can do to support our global community!

Joining the tour are two fresh to the scene rappers, Roach Gigz and Mumbles. Gigz is a 21yr old rapper out of the bay area, eager to show his style Roach was selected as one of 106 KMEL’s Top 10 Freshman Rappers. Mumbles is out of Berkeley, California and known for getting wild on stage, not only with his lyrics but some crazy antics as well.

PHISH Ending Their Summer Tour In Colorado Once Again!

Phish has just announced a much anticipated summer tour and luckily it will end in Colorado once again!

Kicking it off July 3rd with their first ever stop in Bangor, Maine the tour stops across both the east and west coast before all wrapping up with a 3 day show at Dicks Sporting Goods in Commerce City, CO.

Formed at the University of Vermont in 1983, Phish has over 20 years of experience. They took a break in August of 2004 but after a 5 year separation the band reunited in late 2009, and have been touring since. Phish is known for their giant loyal fan base as Jam band and kick ass shows. They have won multiple Jammy awards contributing to the bands reputation. You can catch them here at the end of August and tickets go on sale March 29th and 30th.

REVIEW | Snowball Music Festival 2013

Any opportunity to rage in the mountains I’ll quickly take. Add that to Snowball’s lineup and you have a great weekend ahead of you!

After moving to Winter Park, I didn’t really know what to expect from the festival, but the level of productions and the layout of the venue were amazing (those of you who braved the cold know exactly what I’m talking about). Grand Park was a perfect festival grounds for the show. The mountains were in the background and trees surrounded you on three sides; It made a great backdrop for the festival. With the kick off of festival season and midterms right around the corner Snowball was a great excuse to get out and have a little fun and it has transformed from just being that festival in the snow, to one of the major festivals to look forward to each year. Every night the venue was filled with flag wavers, awesome music, and smiling faces all ready to get down. The sense of community you feel in Colorado at concerts is unbeatable and this show only proved that. 

I ended up meeting a ton of people from out of state so I’m glad this show has some reach around the country, but even with all of those people from out of state Colorado flags were a dime a dozen. I have to admit I didn’t know a lot of the music on the lineup this year, but after going to the show I can definitely say I need to download some new music! All of the artists seem to play great shows and they looked like they had a blast doing it! The main stage was nestled back in the corner next to the big air jump with some lucky people shredding during the set changes. 

I was a little confused on the placement of the LED screen behind the lights, but nonetheless every show we saw there was a good time. Pretty Lights took over the main stage on Saturday and the crowd packed in to see him play. There was a lot of oldies, but goodies, as well as some new hot sh*t which I was very happy to see. One of the best sets of the weekend though was Grizmatik. Made up of Griz and Gramatik, this was Grizmatik’s first real time playing a show together, other than a couple songs, and they absolutely killed it! Their funky beats were more than enough to satisfy the crowd and got everyone jumping. One of the artists I hadn’t heard of before was Polica and after the show I quickly got their album. They’re mellow but have some bangin’ beats. I would highly suggest you check them out. Luckily the weather held out except for Saturday morning when it dumped making Saturday the coldest night by far, but other than that the weather was beautiful. 

The only complaint I have is the bus system getting to the show, they need to rethink that a bit. Of course free shuttle busses are the best but the schedule seemed to be messed up and took way too long to get there. Leaving the concert each night was no hassle at all but trying to get there was. Over all Snowball was a great time and I can’t wait to go back next year!

Arise Music and Arts Festival | Loveland, CO

Music festivals are becoming a lot more than just a giant concert, especially here in Colorado. With Sonic Bloom adding workshops, yoga, performers, and artist beyond the full music lineup other festivals are starting to do the same. The recently cancelled event, Moonshine Festival, had athletes set up to perform during the festival and even Snowball Music Festival this past weekend had athletes during the set changes. 

Arise Music Festival is the newest addition to our Colorado music festival list that calls Loveland, CO its home. The festival boasts 5 stages with over 100 DJs and artists all around their theme camps set up to create a wonderspace of creativity. The lineup so far is pretty impressive with Xavier Rudd, Michal Menert, Toubab Krewe, Chali 2Na, and The Motet as well as many many more to be announced later on. This festival goes on for 5 days in the beautiful Rocky Mountains at a place called Sunrise Ranch. Unlike the normal festival of getting down to music with your friends, this festival is meant to inspire its attendees. With a main stage, second stage, electronic stage, yoga stage, and a 400 seat presentation dome as well as performers, artists, and much more, this festival is shaping up to be a must attend event.

Rage Colorado is here to promote the local music scene while spreading the word about new artists and shows.We would like to bring you The Limelight District. A local band out of Fort Collins with some real talent.

 'We're a local Fort Collins/NoCo based band specializing in Jam/Rock/Blues/Funk. We love to put on a great show and make people dance!

Formally Known as The Sketch Artists... The Limelight District is a four piece band who have been making quite the ruckus in the Northern Colorado music scene.
They specialize in rock based jam music and base their influences in the dance sector of the music world. They aim to not only rock the house down but look damn good doing it.'

The Limelight District have a few shows coming up that are definitely worth checking out!

As long as you're not living under a rock you're aware that this weekend is the 3rd annual Snowball Music Festival!

We've put together a guide to help those ragers who are going up to Winter Park to enjoy the festivities filled with time slots, bus routes, and after party info. If you are going, be sure to be on the look out for Rage Colorado stickers flying around!
