I haven’t been to a ton of EDM shows, but Feed Me at the Fox in Boulder was by far the smallest. The size brought with it both pros and cons. Parking was free and super easy, it was easy to make friends because you ran into the same people over and over again, and It was easy to keep track of the 21+’s and the under-21’s (which the Fox did very well). I guess depending on your goals for the night, you’ll determine which if these is good or bad differently.
Personally, I thought the venue and the people were great! I’m always impressed by the kindness of rave attendees, but I’m rarely as impressed by the kindness of the venue staff as I was here. A good example of that is that I left my earplugs at home and a bartender gave me an extra pair. The manager was glad to give me a bottle of water and asked me on more than one occasion if I needed anything.
Tjani, Mord Fustang, and Feed Me were all very professional, energetic, and seemed happy to be there. Initially, I was underwhelmed by the lights and staging during the first two acts. I’ve become accustomed to the over-the-top production associated with EDM. But there was something cooly intimate about the lack of flash.
And then Feed Me more than made up for this with his live set up. The teeth took over most of the stage and really showed you just how intimate this show was. The crowd was packed in and everyone seemed to have a good time. If you've seen FEED ME before, you know the energy he brings with his blend of electro house and dubstep; This sort of setting only amplified that.
While I enjoyed the music and the environment, I found myself mostly thinking about how great the Fox is during my cold, late drive back to Denver.
